Welcome to Random Sketchbook, the collective creative work of Niovi Phinopoulou.
Niovi started her career as a graphic designer & illustrator before transitioning to VFX. In 2013 she started as a 3D Artist at MPC commercials, moving to MPC Film, at the Groom department. Since then, she has worked in different roles and studios mainly as a groom, texture/lookdev and 3D modelling artist.
In 2019 she moved to Vancouver from Europe and has been calling it home ever since. In 2022 she joined Portal Studios, where she creates most of her artwork.
Currently she works as a Senior Surfacing Artist at Netflix Animation Studios.
Artist’s statement
Inspired by natural environments and fascinated by textures and obscure details, I use art as a medium to explore and interpret this beautiful world we are temporary residents on.
The only constant is that everything is fluid and ever changing. As such, I work a lot with water based mediums such as inks, exploring the [un]predictability, intrinsic effects and layers to interpret a thought or an idea.
Many times I use photography for capturing a moment in time and space as a memory to be preserved, and many times as a reminder of what it was, it is not.
